Please get in touch at bellathebirthkeeper@outlook.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Pronounced "doo-la", it is a Greek word translating to caregiver.
A doula is a trained companion, who is not a healthcare professional but someone who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informative support to their client throughout the process of Bump, Birth and Beyond.
A Doula believes in ‘Mothering the Mother’.
The earlier the better!
The benefits of having a Doula for your birth will be the same whether you contact me at 12 weeks or 35 weeks. The difference in finding your Doula as early as possible during pregnancy is that we will have longer to get to know each other.
All of them!
Many people think Doula's can only be found at home births but we are here to support you wherever you feel most comfortable - including in hospitals and birth centres.
If you have a birth partner, the focus for me is making you both ready for your new arrival. From our antenatal sessions right the way up to birth I will support and involve both of you, building your collective confidence and providing you and your partner with top techniques so you are happy and comfortable.
Many mothers have a birth partner supporting them but find that they can be more involved with the presence of a Doula.
Birth is a unique experience; within my role I will respect your wishes regarding privacy and modesty. Many women and their partners report feeling more secure thanks to the continuous and caring presence of a Doula.
Unlike a maternity nurse, a postnatal Doula is not there to take sole care of the baby. Instead, a postnatal Doula supports you to be the parent you want to be and ensuring you feel empowered and supported at every stage.
Pick up the phone or send me an email. Then we can arrange a complimentary initial consultation, which can be face to face or online.
I look forward to hearing from you 💜
